Carpmaels & Ransford is delighted to announce that Maggie Gisseleire, Laura Johnson, Joe Abdalla, Aled Richards-Jones, and Alex Fennell have been promoted to Senior Associates, effective 1st January 2023.
Maggie joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2015 and is part of the Chemistry team at the firm. She handles a diverse range of chemical subject-matter including healthcare technology, consumer products, and polymeric products, and advises clients through all stages of the patent process. She particularly enjoys defending and opposing patents in opposition and appeal procedures at the European Patent Office, and works for both established multi-national companies and early-stage companies.
Laura is part of the Engineering and Tech teams at Carpmaels & Ransford, where her primary focus is on software and computer-implemented inventions, including machine learning applications, cloud computing, and fintech. She is involved with a range of tech clients, from early tech start-ups to tech unicorns. Laura’s other key technical areas are telecommunications, where she has worked on standard essential patents, and medical devices, particularly electroceuticals.
Joe works in the Chemistry team at Carpmaels & Ransford, focusing on small-molecule drugs and pharmaceutical compositions, as well as a range of chemical technologies including industrial processes, catalysts, pigments and inks. A significant proportion of Joe’s work relates to contentious proceedings before the EPO, spanning a broad range of chemical subject-matter. Besides patent work, Joe has valuable experience of obtaining SPC protection for pharmaceutical products.
Alex works within the Life Sciences field at Carpmaels & Ransford, with a particular focus on biotechnological inventions. He is involved in cases covering therapeutic antibodies, antisense compounds, microbiome compositions, gene therapies and biomedical methods. Alex is involved in the global prosecution of patent portfolios and has experience in EPO oppositions and appeals, as well as SPC prosecution.
Aled sits within the firm’s Dispute Resolution team with a particular focus on patents, including recent High Court disputes involving pharmaceuticals, endoscopy devices, Invisalign dental realignment technology, blood products, and disposable medical wear. Beyond patents, his experience includes a High Court trial concerning a trade mark licensing dispute and several copyright and trade mark disputes in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (including the Small Claims track).
Hugh Goodfellow, Managing Partner at Carpmaels & Ransford, comments:
“Congratulations to Maggie, Laura, Alex, Aled, and Joe on these well-deserved promotions, which both reflect their breadth of knowledge, experience and achievements over their recent years of professional development, and are testament both to their teams and to the high standards that are found here at Carpmaels. We look forward to seeing them take their skill and talent further still, in their new roles.”
The promotion of five new Senior Associates follows the arrival of new Partner, Agathe Michel-de Cazotte, in September 2022. Agathe joined Carpmaels from Hogan Lovells.
