Carpmaels & Ransford is delighted to announce that we have again been ranked in Band 1, UK-wide, for Intellectual Property: Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys, in the 2023 edition of Chambers & Partners. Our Managing Partner, Hugh Goodfellow, and Partner, Cameron Marshall, have been ranked in the top tier UK-wide for Intellectual Property Patent Attorneys.
Six partners from the firm received individual recognition, including Jennifer Antcliff who is newly recommended as “Up and Coming” for her coordination and litigation of patent disputes in the life sciences sector. Partners Camilla Balleny, David Wilson, and Ian Kirby were also ranked and recommended in their respective fields.

Hugh Goodfellow assists clients in the life sciences sector with all facets of patent prosecution and is sought after to coordinate multi-jurisdictional SPC filing programmes. He currently sits as the firm’s managing partner. According to clients he is “a tremendous EPO patent attorney who always responds in a timely manner despite also managing the firm’s affairs. He is very experienced and a delight to work with.”
Cameron Marshall is an expert in biochemical patent prosecution and frequently acts in oppositions before the UK and EU registries. He has a strong client base in biotech and pharmaceuticals. David Wilson has a wealth of experience defending and bringing claims for corporations in patent infringement and revocation actions. He has particular expertise representing top pharmaceutical companies. Clients commented that he is “extremely knowledgeable, quick and practically-minded.”
Camilla Balleny leverages her scientific background to assist a broad range of life sciences companies with complex patent disputes. She often handles multi-jurisdictional cases. Ian Kirby is noted for his success as a patent litigator acting for medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers. He has also recently been instructed by clients in financial services and consumer goods. Clients comment that he is “an excellent patent litigator.”
Jennifer Antcliff has a strong patent litigation practice, and is regularly instructed to act by major clients in the life science space. Clients commented that Jennifer “is an upcoming star. She is incredibly hard-working and goes the extra mile for her clients.”
