LGBT+ History Month takes place in the UK every February to celebrate and educate people about issues affecting LGBT+ people and the history of the movements for LGBT+ rights. It is held in February to coincide with the 2003 abolition of Section 28 of the 1988 Local Government Act.
Part of the motivation of LGBT+ History Month is to “claim the past” by highlighting LGBT+ figures who may have been forgotten or whose contributions may have been overlooked. At Carpmaels & Ransford, we are hosting talks with writer Clare Summerskill looking at the experiences of older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people living on the margins of society.
Speaking about the talks Camilla Balleny, Chair of the D&I Task Group at Carpmaels & Ransford said: “We are really pleased to welcome Clare to speak to the firm. We are committed to ensuring a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone at the firm and we hope events such as these provide the opportunity for people to learn from the experiences and perspectives of others.”
Carpmaels & Ransford is an active member of IP Inclusive, a network which promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in the industry, and a member of the Diversity Champions Programme of Stonewall, the leading charity for lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality in the UK, dedicated to ensuring LGBT inclusion in the workplace.
